Direction (Q. 1-5): These questions are based on the following five three digits numbers.

1.If ‘1’ is subtracted from all the even digits and ‘2’ is subtracted from all the odd digits and then the numbers are arranged in ascending order, which of the following will be the second largest number?

a.863
b.725
c.278
d.549
e.875

Solution :

863 725 278 549 875
Ascending order of the given numbers is,
157, 337, 513, 751, 753
Hence, the second largest number is 751
∴ Corresponding number is 863
Answer: a)

2. If the positions of the first and the third digits in each of the numbers are interchanged, then what will be the difference between the first and third digits of the second smallest number thus formed?
a.6
b.3
c.5
d.2

Solution :

863 -> 368
725 -> 527
278 -> 872
549 -> 945
875 -> 578
∴ The second smallest number is 527
Hence, required difference is 7 – 5 = 2
Answer is: d)

3. If all the three digits within each number are arranged in descending order then what will be the difference between second digit of the smallest number and third digit of the largest number thus formed?
a.1
b.2
c.3
d.4

Solution :

Descending order is,
863, 752, 872, 954, 875
The smallest number is 752; the largest number is 954
∴ Required difference is, 5 – 4 =1

4.If ‘1’ is added to the first digit of each number and then the position of first and second digits are interchanged, which of the following will be the third digit of the second highest number?
a.5
b.3
c.8
d.9
e.2

Solution :

863 -> 963 ->693
725 -> 825 -> 285
278 -> 378 -> 738
549 ->649 -> 469
875-> 975 -> 795
The second highest number is 738
∴ the third digit of 738 is ‘8’
Answer is: c)

5. If first and second digits of each number is added the sum of which of the following numbers would be an even number?
a.875
b.278
c.549
d.725
e.863

Solution :

863 -> 8+6 = 14
725 -> 7+2 =9
278 -> 2+7=9
549-> 5+4 =9
875 ->8+7 =15
Hence, the answer is 863
